The sustainable engineering cluster focuses on research activities pertaining environmental sustainability. The objective of this research cluster on environmental is to identify methods and contribute useful findings from a sustainability perspective including economic, energy consumption, value added, environmental and social aspect.

Principal research focus areas in environmental engineering include;

The building engineering research activities explores all phases of the life cycle of a building that take into consideration factors such as wind, noise, solar energy, pollutants, and occupancy; their construction will be safe, efficient and economical. The research goal is to contribute to the building construction industry and leads to buildings that are more energy efficient, comfortable, healthy, safe, and responsive to their inhabitants with innovative combination of traditional and advanced construction materials as well as intelligent controls.
