Admissions

Entry requirements for acceptance into the postgraduate programmes by research are based on the following qualifications (and experience if applicable).

PhD Programme

  • A Master’s degree from any of the institution of higher learning recognised by the University Senate; OR
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the University Senate.

MSc/PhD Programme (for Malaysian Only)

  • A Bachelors degree from any of the institution of higher learning recognised by the University Senate; AND
  • Attained at undergraduate level a minimum CGPA of 3.3 (or equivalent) for fresh graduates or a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) for candidates with at least 3 years of relevant working experience; OR
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the University Senate.

Master’s Programme by Research Mode

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related fields with a CGPA of at least 2.75 from a university recognized by the government and approved by Senate; OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant fields.
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate.

Master’s Programme by Coursework

MSc (Occupational Hygiene)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or related fields with a CGPA of at least 2.5 from a university recognized by the government and approved by Senate; or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant fields.
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate.

Language Requirements

  • English is the medium of instruction for all programmes in UniMAP. Foreign students are required to have proficiency in written and spoken English in one of the following forms:
    • A minimum TOEFL score of 550; OR
    • A minimum IELTS score of Band 6; OR equivalent
  • Candidates who do not possess English Language proficiency are required to sit for an English Placement Test (EPT) before commencing their studies in UniMAP.
  • Applicants who are holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

English Placement Test

  • The placement test comprises written and oral assessments which measures four language skills i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • The grading is divided into six bands, and students are required to obtain at least band 5.
  • Students who do not obtain the required English language proficiency level either band 5 or band 6 in the placement test, are required to take the Intensive English Course. The placement of students into the intensive English course is based on students’ performance in the placement test.

Intensive English Course

  • The intensive English course comprises of two levels:
  • Level 1

– The duration is six months – 480 contact hours, 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.

– This course is meant for students who obtain band 1 and band 2 in the placement test.

– The fee is RM 2500.00

  • Level 2

– The duration is three months – 240 contact hours, 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.

– This course is meant for students who obtain band 3 and band 4 in the placement test.

– The fee is RM 1500.00

  • The course is designed to help students to further strengthen their English language proficiency so that they will able to pursue their studies in English successfully. The focus of the course is on all the four language skills. A student centred integrated approach will be used in the course. Lab work is an integral part of the course.
